The countdown has begun to the launch of The Southland App — a mobile phone-based portal for Southland news and information being developed by Advocate South.
Available for download at the Apple App Store and Google Play Store from May 28, The Southland App will be the eighth provincial app of its kind to launch as part of the newly formed Independent App Network of New Zealand which is holding its inaugural conference in Christchurch this week.
Advocate South general manager David Pickett the aim was to start small and progressively add new features every week.
"We ultimately want to be the definitive place to find accurate and timely Southland news, weather and road conditions, sports draws and results, death notices and acknowledgements, business directories and much more, with the convenience of being always at your fingertips," he said.
"Kind of like the newspaper of old, but in a format for today."
"We're also really excited to announce 2017 Southland Entertainer of the Year and New Zealand Gold Guitars winner Jenny Mitchell as our first 'Southland Appdassador' and we're looking forward to having a significant presence at the Gore Country Music festivities over Queen's Birthday weekend and introducing The Southland App to as many people as possible."
